Memorial "Keys Against Forgetting"

A glass case set into the ground reveals 462 keys. These keys bear nametags. They symbolise that people lived and worked here, that people were driven from this street and forgotten. Yet they also symbolise the recovery and the memory of those names.

The search for an appropriate form of representation in public space for this hidden and suppressed history inspired us to carry out a competition with students from the Vienna University of Applied Arts.

In 2008, the winning project by Julia Schulz was unveiled.
